A Maintenance Fitter / Maintenance Engineer / Machine Maintenance Engineer is required for a National steel processing company based in the Wednesbury area of the West Midlands.

The company are a leading manufacturer and distributor of steel all across the UK and Europe, with this site specialising in the production of bright drawn steel bars.

Purpose of the role is to provide all round preventative and reactionary maintenance to all machinery and plant within the manufacturing area.

Main duties and responsibilities include -

Providing all round preventative and reactionary maintenance to Schumag lines and Drawbenches
Working to planned maintenance schedules, whilst offering continuous improvement where necessary
Responding to breakdowns to reduce machine downtime to a minimum
Fault finding, diagnostics and repairs
Updating and completion of maintenance logs and schedules
Installation and fitting of parts and new plant when required
Steel fabrication, cutting, burning, drilling, grinding and boring as required

Applicants MUST have a solid engineering background, and be qualified to City & Guilds in mechanical engineering. Must also possess a strong knowledge of electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems too. Experience with multi skilled maintenance of Schumag lines or Drawbenches is highly advantageous, however a background with steel processing machinery would also be suitable.

Applicants MUST also have strong analytical problem solving skills, experience with Health & Safety risk assessments, and possibly experience with SAP - however this is desirable, not essential

The role is a long term ongoing contract with immediate starts after interview stage

Basic hourly rate starts at £10.05 p/h, increasing to £10.40 after a short period. Shift allowance is paid on top for working afternoons, Overtime is paid at time & half in the week and Saturdays, Double time if working Sundays

Working hours are 6am - 2pm / 2pm - 10:30pm Monday to Thursday, early finish Friday rotating shifts.
