They are now seeking a Machine Shop Supervisor to play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence, leading a skilled team, and ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standards.
The Role
As Machine Shop Supervisor, you’ll take responsibility for coordinating day-to-day activity within a busy and well-equipped workshop. You’ll plan workloads, allocate tasks, and ensure all machining work, from manual turning to CNC operation, is delivered on time, safely, and to specification.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and supervising a team of machinists and technicians
- Overseeing daily machining operations to ensure efficiency and quality
- Reading and interpreting CAD drawings and technical blueprints
- Selecting and setting up appropriate machines (lathes, drills, CNC equipment)
- Monitoring progress, checking tolerances, and ensuring accuracy of output
- Planning workflows to meet customer deadlines and production targets
- Maintaining stock of materials and ensuring availability of key components
- Training and developing machinists to support skill growth and performance
- Managing timekeeping, discipline, and attendance within the team
- Ensuring compliance with all Health & Safety regulations and company policies
- Performing or overseeing routine maintenance and minor machine repairs
About You
You’re a hands-on leader with deep machining knowledge and the ability to motivate others to perform at their best. You know your way around both manual and CNC machines, and you take pride in producing work that’s right the first time, every time.
You’ll bring:
- Proven experience as a machinist or machine shop supervisor
- Strong technical knowledge of lathes, drills, and CNC machinery
- Ability to read blueprints, CAD drawings, and use precision measuring tools (callipers, micrometres, verniers)
- Understanding of materials, including ferrous, non-ferrous, plastics, and copper
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Knowledge of machine speeds, feeds, and production methods
- Confidence with basic IT tools (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- A proactive approach to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
