Join an established specialist engineering business providing machinery engineering, service and repair solutions to customers across the UK.

This is a varied position combining hands-on mechanical engineering knowledge with machinery inspection, design, fault diagnosis and technical reporting. You'll work across both workshop and customer-site environments, taking responsibility for engineering projects from initial inspection through to repair recommendations, commissioning and ongoing support.

The role would suit an experienced Mechanical Engineer from a heavy engineering, industrial machinery, special-purpose machinery or engineering service background who can combine strong practical knowledge with mechanical design and technical engineering expertise.

Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical machinery inspections, servicing and repair programmes.
  • Diagnose complex mechanical faults and carry out root-cause investigations.
  • Assess machinery condition and recommend appropriate repairs or engineering modifications.
  • Support the design and modification of machinery and mechanical equipment.
  • Apply knowledge of machining, welding, fabrication and mechanical assembly techniques.
  • Supervise workshop and customer-site engineering activities.
  • Support machinery installation, commissioning and condition-monitoring programmes.
  • Produce detailed technical reports covering findings, conclusions and engineering recommendations.
  • Work closely with Mechanical Fitters and Technicians throughout repair and engineering projects.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly with customers and other stakeholders.
  • Travel to customer sites throughout the UK when required.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 5 years' relevant mechanical engineering experience.
  • Strong background within industrial machinery, heavy engineering or a related engineering service environment.
  • Experience with machinery inspection, servicing, repair and fault diagnosis.
  • Good understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing techniques.
  • Able to diagnose challenging mechanical faults and carry out basic electrical fault finding.
  • Experience producing professional technical engineering reports.
  • Comfortable working across both workshop and customer-site environments.
  • Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • IEng status would be advantageous.
  • Relevant site safety certification would be beneficial.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Flexibility for UK travel, occasional overnight stays and out-of-hours work when required.
